Businesses can file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case with contemplates the business ceasing all operations and all of its assets being liquidated for the benefit of its creditors.
Businesses can also file a Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases which allows the business to reorganize its debts and hopefully remain in business. Some of the business creditors may be paid in full; others may be paid a reduced amount or nothing at all. If a business cannot successfully reorganize under a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it may voluntarily (or sometimes be forced) into a Chapter 7 business liquidation case.
